Hostel Clandestino

The weather in Nicaragua is always tropical warm/hot year round during the day and a bit cooler during the night, usually with a bit of ocean breeze.

The climate during rainy season between May and October is more humid, from October to April during dry season it's hotter without much rain. Dry season can be pretty windy from December till March, April and May are usually quite hot without wind nor rain.

When it comes to surfing, the biggest swells for experienced surfers hit between April and November. However intermediates and beginners will still find awesome surfing conditions at the beach break or in the white water.
Between December and March the waves are typically a bit smaller, so perfect for Beginners and Intermediates. But even if you are an experienced surfer, you can still get into the water every day and have lots of fun.

• groceries: if you are planning on using our guest kitchen, it's best to bring groceries from San Juan. There are no stores close by to get groceries, only a couple of surf shops and restaurants at the beach.
• flashlight: sometimes there are power outages and also the road to the beach and the paths at the hostel are quite dark at night
• mosquito repellent: depending on the weather there can be mosquitoes around, mostly outside though, the rooms are fine!
• cash: there are no nearby ATMs, the closest ones are in San Juan del Sur. At the hostel we can only accept cash payment.
• padlock: all our rooms are equipped with lockers, so a padlock comes in handy
• spring suit or neo top from December to March could be handy

At Playa Maderas there are a couple of surf shops where you can rent boards and take lessons. We always recommend Juan Carlos with Surf School Rebelde. They are super friendly people with a bigger selection of boards and good instructors.

Rental price per day is $10, if you rent for a week it is usually $50/week.

They also offer surf classes and coaching.

Playa Maderas

• Juanitas Kitchen: a nice local beachfront restaurant/bar with really good food right at the beach a couple of minutes walking north of the Maderas break
• Pizza Night: happening every Friday night at Machete, just a 5 minute drive from Hostel Clandestino
• Horseback Riding along the beach with Erik Cascante
• walks along the beach to the secluded bay of Playa Majagual
• playing a round of Disc Golf in the Marsella valley, a 20 minute walk from the hostel
• fishing/surf trips by boat
• massage: get a massage from Dunia, located just down the road
• skate and surf all day long

San Juan del Sur

• Every Sunday a big party crowd is coming to San Juan del Sur for its notorious Sunday Funday. It’s a day-pool-crawl with up to 500 people.
• Cerveceria: a cool bar with local brewed drafts and sometimes live music.
• Party all night long in various locations in town.
