Important information for your stay!
- check-in is from 12PM to 8PM - check-out is at 10am, but you can use the community facilities the whole day
- Payment is made in CASH directly at the hostel, the closest ATMs are in San Juan del Sur. Please note that we ONLY accept Cordobas (NIO)!
Make sure to bring groceries (oil and spices,too) from San Juan del Sur in case you plan on using the kitchen. There are a couple of restaurants (more pricey than typical Nicaraguan food) and surf shops around but no stores at all.
The tap water is drinkable and a fruit and vegetable truck comes to the hostel two times a week (usually Tuesdays and Fridays).

How to get to the hostel:
You start at the Hostel Casa Oro in San juan and buy the ticket at the reception. Tell the driver to drop you off at “Big drop surf house“ and walk up the hill from there to the hostel. You will find the current schedule and prices on the following website:
Hostel Casa ORO Website With a taxi:
you can order a taxi upfront from everywhere in nicaragua. we recommend a 4x4 taxi, as depending on road conditions and weather, it may be that only a 4x4 can get to Maderas and up to the hostel. this is slightly more expensive, but can get you to the hostel safely. They can stop at the supermarket to get groceries and cash at Ahorra mas. Miguel: +50586894662 With a Car(4x4 car highly recommended)/Motobike:
If you are coming from San Juan, take the dirt road towards Rivas and follow the signs to Playa Maderas. Follow the road past the Hostel Socialtel keep right and drive over on of the hills. At the bottom there is a crossroads, next to Big Drop Surf House, where you turn right and drive up the hill. The hostel and reception are located after the left-hand bend on the left-hand side. Tips for traveling by public transport:
San Jorge Port: Bus/Taxi to Rivas -> Bus to San Juan -> and from San Juan with the Hostel Caso Oro Shuttle to Maderas
San Jose/Liberia: Different Companies offering Busses from San Jose to Rivas/La Virgen/San Juan Del Sur. easiest and fastest is „Los Chamos shuttle“ They drive you from San Jose/liberia to San Juan. Other Companies like Deldu or Tica bus will drive you to rivas and you need to take a bus to San Juan. If you‘re driving with central line, they can drop you off in La virgen and you can take the bus to san juan. when you arrive in San juan you can take the Hostel casa oro shuttle to maderas.
VW Bus
Our most unique room is definitely our VW Van Cabin with private bathroom and private kitchen!
The van is equipped with a queen sized bed, fan, lights and power outlets. Start your day with a coffee in your private, fully equipt kitchen and you've got your own bathroom with an extra big shower where you can look into nature.
On top of the tiled roof, there is a sun lounger/star gazer.

Our two story private cabin "La Cabanita 1" got all you need:
a queen sized bed, bathroom, balcony and your own kitchen downstairs and a couch and desk upstairs under the palm roof to relax and work during the day.
If you want to have more privacy and maybe even work remotely, this is definitly the cabin for you.
